This word is used in the bible 468 times.
It means; to guard, protect and keep.
Its a watchful, alert state. A watchman that stands at attention with eyes wide open to protect and alert!
The first time it is used in the bible is in Gen 2:15, when Adam was told to "keep" the garden. We misunderstand this scripture often, for lack of full knowledge of the words meaning. When Adam was told to "keep" it, he was supposed to be "guarding and protecting" it. Get the picture?
Adam was the first watchman on the wall.
Interestingly enough the word indicates a protective border, as with a thorny hedge (to hedge about). A primitive "barbed wire" fence, of sorts. Whether literal or spiritual, makes no difference. He had a sacred duty to "KEEP" the garden.
Are you "keeping" your garden? Where's YOUR Eden? Adam and Eve chose to dine with the enemy instead of drag him by the tail to the fence line! If you will "keep" your garden then HE will "keep" you!
The church will claim you don't have "LOVE" but God will say, "Why didn't you "keep" your garden?" WE ARE NOT MEANT TO BE PANSY CHRISTIANS! GUARDS HAVE BACKBONES, THEIR NOT SPINELESS!! And they have a solemn duty to protect the things that God has given them.
Now lets apply it to our last word study to bring more clarity to one of our prior scripture verses.
Psalm 91:11 For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to KEEP thee in all thy ways.

Meaning: to lay charge (upon), give charge (to), command, order
Strongs#: H6680
Transliteration: tsavah
Phonetic spelling: (tsaw-vaw')
This word is used in the bible 494 times.
When the word is used, it always includes:
A.) Two people; the commander (authority figure) and the commanded (his subject)
B.) An object; that which the command effects
(whether person, place or thing)
For example:
In Gen 2:16-17 Yehovah 'elohiym COMMANDED ‘adam, saying Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil , thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Here we have the Authority (Yehovah 'elohiym) COMMANDING his subject (Adam) not to eat from the object (the tree of knowledge). Now, lets apply it to a very well known scripture!
Psalm 91:11
For He shall give His angels CHARGE over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
The Authority is Yehovah 'elohiym. His subjects are His messengers and the object is those who abide in the secret place (see v.1).
So now lets put it all together in simple English. If you will seek God privately and spend time with Him there, then He will dispatch personal body guards to your side, whose soul purpose it to keep you safe, where ever you go!
WOW! If this doesn’t encourage you to get alone with God NOTHING else will!
